Creamy Pesto

I primed and painted the basement bedroom/workout room tonight. The color is Valspar Medallion Creamy Pesto and I love it!

The pictures don't really do it justice. Think spring green.

Tomorrow - another coat of paint and the final layer of polyurethane on the window trim.

Progress!

We made good progress on the basement this weekend. We had planned to run to GF Saturday morning for supplies but the pickup wasn't running right. At least we figured that out before we left, since it was well below 0 outside. The things we need won't fit in the Tahoe so we'll have to figure something else out. Tim textured the room we were working on and I should be able to prime it tomorrow. This room is going to be an extra bedroom/exercise room. I will look at paint samples tomorrow, but right now I'm leaning towards lime green. I put a coat of polyurethane on the woodwork around the windows and painted a shelf for my craft room.

I also made some cards Saturday afternoon...

Basement plans

This is our view of the basement as we come down the stairs...

This is the view to the left...

And this is looking back towards the stairs...

Lovely, isn't it?

This is the room we're working on now...

And here's the plan!...

Want vs. Need

I really want this...

Do I need it? No, not really. I have a computer and it works fine....though I probably find fault with it because I think this one would be better. But getting this new computer wouldn't go along with my simplify theme. So, for now, this computer will sit in my shopping cart at apple.com until...until...it just disappears.

We've been very busy with home improvement projects lately, namely finishing our basement. We've had many different plans for this space since we moved here 8 years ago and we're finally moving ahead. Since we'll be doing all the work ourselves I don't anticipate finishing anytime soon. But at least we have progress! I'll post pictures of the mess tomorrow.

January 12

Yesterday was the 12th...the first day of my Twelve of Twelve project!

Here's what my day looked like...

Today's layouts

I scrapbooked some older photos today plus our trip to Vegas in November. This is why I like the Library of Memories philosophy...even though I still had Halloween photos from 2007 to scrapbook, I wasn't worried about being "behind".

Best Life

I've been watching Oprah's Best Life series this week. I record it on my DVR and then watch it at night while I'm on the elliptical. You can find all of this information on her website, but here are some tips I'm going to try to follow:
~ Schedule time for yourself.
~ Five ingredients to avoid - high fructose corn syrup, sugar, foods with "enriched" ingredients, trans fat & saturated fats.
~ Get 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

The last one is a big one for me. This is how my nights and mornings usually go - stay up until 11pm or later, set the alarm for 6am, hit the snooze until 6:30, or today 6:45, run around like a crazy person to get out the door by 7:15am. Needless to say, it's not a relaxing morning. And, it doesn't really fit with my "simplify" theme. So, I'm going to try really hard to get up the first time my alarm rings...at 6am.

My day

Today is my birthday. It was a good day. I spent most of it in the kitchen and my scrapbook/stamping/sewing room...my two favorite places.

Since Tim hunts we always have a freezer full of meat. In order to make use of all of it before the next years harvest (which we usually never do) I have to get a little creative with cooking it. Today I made venison pizza. I removed the sausage from the casing, fried it up and put it on pizza. It was delicious!

Instead of a birthday cake, I made myself some lemon cheese bars...they were even better than the pizza!

For supper I made my favorite, bean soup. The best part about ham is saving the bone to make bean soup. The beans look so colorful before they're cooked.

Country kid

Did a quick scrapbook page tonight...

Simplify

There is a trend among the blogs I read to choose a theme word for your life in 2009. So I'm joining in...my theme for the year is simplify.

Simplify
~to make less complex or complicated
~make plainer or easier

To me simplify means ~
make do with what I have
reduce clutter
spending my time only on things that interest me
spend money wisely

I will probably think of more as time goes on.

I've had this above the lightswitch in my bedroom for several years. This year, I will pay more attention to it...

The Bathroom

I've never really been into seashells until we took a trip to New Hampshire and Maine about a year ago. I loved the cape cod style of the homes and the quaint beach cottages. I picked up a few seashells for the bathroom...

Our bathroom used to be two, one off the hallway and then one off our bedroom. The half-wall used to be a full wall. We took it down and covered up the door into the bedroom. We moved our washer and dryer from the front utility room created a laundry area in the bathroom. I like it back by the bedrooms so much better. It didn't make sense to me to haul all our laundry through the kitchen.

I purchased this chore chart from Motivated Moms again this year. It's a great system of keeping your home clean and organized...if you keep up with it! Maybe I'll post more rooms when they're clean!

The Livingroom

We took our Christmas tree and decorations down today. As much as I like Christmas, it's nice to have my house back to its plain, uncluttered state.

I found this cool blog today - The Lettered Cottage. I really like her design style. And if you click here, she'll give you design advice, for a small fee. I thought this was a really cool business idea! For $5 she'll answer any design question you have. I wonder what questions people would pay me to answer for them! Hmmm.

I've had this Pottery Barn shelf sitting under my bed for a long time...like years. I pulled it out today and hung it in the living room, next to the door, and put some framed pictures on it.

Then I thought, "Wouldn't it look nice if I had another one for the other side of the window!" I went on eBay and someone is selling a set of 2 for $66. A little pricey and I only need one. So, I just hung a picture there instead.

I still think it would look better on a shelf so I'm going to keep checking eBay.

Here's where the Christmas tree was. The rest of the year I keep this other tree there. At Halloween we hang pumpkin lights from it.

And here's the whole room...

I'd like to do a scrapbook page or two about our house and document the way the rooms are decorated. Can you imagine how the styles will change in 2o years?

Happy New Year!

We rang in the new year with family, swimming, pizza, games and drinks! In fact, we were so into our game of "Battle of the Sexes" that we missed 12:oo. I think it was 12:15 when someone said, "Is it new year's yet?"

Reese is telling Grandma a very important story. I think it was about the ticket Bubba (her imaginary friend) got from the police for splashing too much water.

My sister enjoying her wine. Peace out.

The next day we went bowling!

The little kid bowling shoes were so cute!

You can see who's been practicing bowling on their new Wii game! I started the game with 3 strikes. Lost my groove after that but still came out ahead!
