Christmas Crafts

It's starting to look and feel a lot like Christmas around here!

I put together these advent boxes from Stampin' Up! and Jake opens one every day until Christmas. It's been the highlight of each morning for him to see what's in the box for the day. It was a little challenging finding 25 small things to fit in them, and I didn't, so some boxes have a note in them directing him to where the treat is.

I made these cute little Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer holders for Sunday School and piano teacher gifts.

We have a busy week coming up with something going on each night including exercise class, Tae Kwon Do, two Christmas programs, work Christmas party, a fun night out with friends in GF and 4-H!

We didn't travel very far for Thanksgiving this year, just into town to my sisters. The weather forecast wasn't very good but turned out to be ok.

After dinner we perused the pile of sales ads from the newspaper.

Last year was my first time shopping on Black Friday and I finished all of my Christmas shopping in 3 hours. This year, I did my Black Friday shopping online. I finished most of it in an hour and felt I got some great deals!

What's Been Happening Around Here

I took photos of my nephew for their Christmas cards. I've taken Christmas card photos for a few people this year but still haven't taken our own! Tim has been busy hunting on the weekends and with the evenings so short it's been a challenge. But there's still time!

Jake had his Tae Kwon Do testing last week for his orange belt. He had to do a flying side kick and break a board! He was pretty proud of himself!

Tim got his deer yesterday. He's done with bow hunting and rifle hunting ended all that's left is muzzle loader which starts next Friday.

We made a trip to the pumpkin patch today! It was a little cool outside but we still had a fun time.

Fall Decor

Of all the season and holidays to decorate our home for, fall is my favorite...

Busy October

What great weather we're having...I wish it could stay this way for another month! October is a busy month around here and tomorrow is the start of another hectic week. I need to bring my car in to see what exactly the "service engine soon light" means. While I'm waiting I plan to edit my July, August & September photos. I need to print these and have them ready for out mini scrapbook retreat this weekend. I'm meeting my best friend for lunch, something we don't do nearly enough! Of course a trip to GF wouldn't be complete without a stop at Target. The evening brings kickboxing and yoga classes.

Here are some pictures from a hike Jake and I took last weekend through the pasture, fields and trees around our house. So much to explore!

Tree Frog

We had a few tree frogs around our yard this summer. They are a brighter green than regular frogs and they seem to have little suction cups on their feet as they can stick to most vertical surfaces.

Cajun Shrimp Fettuccine

Last nights supper from Cuisine at Home magazine!

Here's the recipe!

1/2 lb. fettuccine
1 T. olive oil
1/4 lb. kielbasa, sliced into coins
1/2 lb. shrimp
2 t. minced garlic
1/4 cup dry sherry
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 stick butter
1/4 cup chicken broth
1/4 t. cayenne
2 egg yolks, beaten
1/4 cup parmesan, grated

Cook the fettuccine while preparing the sauce. Saute kielbasa in olive oil over med-high heat until browned, about 2 minutes. Add shrimp and garlic; cook just until shrimp is pink in color, 1-2 minutes. Remove shrimp and kielbasa from pan. Deglaze the pan with sherry, scraping up brown bits from bottom with a wooden spoon. Add cream, butter, broth and cayenne; add the cooked pasta, sausage and shrimp. Heat briefly. Off heat, stir in yolks and parmesan; toss to coat.

I Did It!

On June 7th I started the C25K program and this weekend, almost 4 months later, I ran my first race, a 10K.
At the hotel before the race.
Two miles down, 4 to go!
Coming up to the finish line.
I did it!
I am proud of the fact that I signed up for a race and then finished it! I also learned a few things...1) If I run in another race most of my training needs to be done on pavement. Of all the time I've been running, 3 days a week, the majority of it has been on gravel roads. I ran on pavement once and 3 times on a treadmill. By the time I got to the finish line, my legs felt as if they were full of cement and I could hardly lift them. The next day, my quads hurt so bad I could barely move. This has never happened to me before and I'm attributing it to the pavement. 2) My biggest cheerleader (AKA Tim) met me at different points throughout the race to snap pictures and offer words of encouragement. I have been trying to run so that the middle of my foot strikes the ground first rather than my heel. This is supposed to be easier on your joints. I thought I was doing that...until I saw these photos.

Clearly a heel-strike. Now I have something to work on and practice before my next race!

10 Years

Today is our 10 year anniversary! Although we're not doing much today to celebrate, we are heading out of town this weekend. I will be running my first race, a 10k, and we plan to do some golfing, eating and drinking...hopefully a little shopping too.

I Can See Clearly Now

Do you know how awesome clean windows are? Pretty awesome. Almost makes doing dishes enjoyable awesome.

Livia and Reese

Some of my favorites from today...

I still have one item left on my list for today, clean Jake's room and my craft room. I better get busy!

Yesterday I deep cleaned the house, starting with the utility room and moving my way through the rest of the house. I enjoy cleaning, of course I wish I didn't have to do it so often, but it's such a nice feeling when everything is in its place.

In preparation for winter, and the muddy boots, coats and snow pants that go along with it, I tried to make our utility room/entry more functional. The final piece I need before the snow flies is a large boot tray.

Today's agenda includes:
  • finish cleaning Jake's room and my craft room
  • make apple muffins
  • take photos of my nieces
  • run 5.5 miles

Jake started piano lessons last week. He has been very anxious to start, sitting down at the piano several times and asking me to teach him to play. Although I took lessons from 2nd grade through graduation I wouldn't know where to start in teaching someone else to play.

Right now he practices willingly, which is nice as I imagine there will be days when it will be a struggle. I am glad he is showing enthusiasm for something I enjoy!

Cajun Chicken Pasta

Tonight we had Cajun Chicken Pasta for supper. You can find the recipe here.

It's very easy...just fry up some chicken that has been sprinkled with cajun seasoning (I got mine from Pampered Chef) and add some peppers and onions.

Once that's done you make the sauce and serve it over linguine pasta.

So yummy!

I spent some time this weekend making cards. I made an effort to try and use up some of my older paper packs so I could make room for some new ones!
